Gift Ideas: V-Slicer Plus (mandoline)

December 26th, 2011 admin

Shop early for gifts! Yes, right now. You’ll thank me later.

“This slicer is an inexpensive alternative to a professional stainless-steel mandoline, this device makes it possible to quickly, uniformly, and safely slice and julienne vegetables and fruits. It also shreds cabbage and neatly dices potatoes, tomatoes, and onions. For safety, a holder firmly grips food with stainless-steel prongs so fingers are protected from the German surgical-steel blades, and the three inserts accompanying the device lock in position. The inserts act as a guide for slicing against the V-frame’s knife that reverses to create slices either 1/4-inch or 1/16-inch thick and two julienne inserts for creating 1/8-inch or 3/8-inch strips. For storage, the V-frame, all three inserts, and the safety holder fit into a caddy that can stand upright on the counter, lie flat in a drawer, or hang on the wall. Made of rugged plastic, the device measures 15 inches long and 6 inches wide when assembled for storage.” –Fred Brack

Why has Oprah Endorsed Kindle?

December 18th, 2011 admin

kindle
You might have already heard about Kindle, the electronic reader. (also called a Wireless Reading Device). It has become one of the most popular electronic devices lately, particular after Ms. Oprah gave a big thumbs up. But it’s expensive, isn’t it? Yes, but what you might consider is that you will not be accumulating piles of books, and you will not be encouraging the use of print, which is catastrophic to the environment in so many evil ways.

Like Oprah, I think the Kindle will make a wonderful gift for bookworms. No, it doesn’t mean they have to give up real books entirely, but it will give them a choice PLUS it’ll be easy to transport several books for example to take on vacation without the weight! I can relate to that perk.

If you buy your Kindle before November 1, 2008, you can receive $50 off the total price when you purchase!! Hurry because November 1st is right around the corner. Happy Reading, everyone!

Learn a Useful Language

December 11th, 2011 admin

Although many of us do not want to admit it, the U.S. has become a weak link in the global economy due to governmental mismanagement by obvious players. The 5 largest American investment banks don’t even exist anymore! Why? Whose fault is it? Does BUSH ring a bell? How ’bout the American government? Anyway, while the U.S. is withering away in power on various levels (and has practically become a “Banana Republic” no thanks to Dubya), China has suddenly gained an enormous financial and social level, never before experienced in history. Their power sort of crept up on us, didn’t it? Pretty amazing, huh?

I find it very unpleasant that this has happened and I am fairly bitter that China produces practically everything on earth and the quality is crap, and sometimes they decide to put toxic chemicals in foods and baby toys, furniture etc., but whatever. The world allowed this and so must assume its actions. What’s to do now?

Adjust to it, whether reluctant or not. China is here to stay and if we can’t accept that, we’ll have to move to another planet. For businesses, I’d think something like language learning would be in order. Billions of people on earth speak Chinese, and to grow your business internationally, you would be remiss to avoid China. That being said, they have a reputation of working unethically and dishonestly. That happens everywhere, so if you do your homework, you should be able to locate the best people to work with you and your company. While English is a language of business, many Chinese people do not speak it and so if you’d like to do business with them, you will have to take the initiative and learn Chinese. A few courses can do wonders.

Who has time to learn a language? I know, it takes time but if you get excellent language learning DVDs, you can work with your own schedule and Learn Chinese at your own pace.

Who Doesn’t Like Pizza? No one.

December 8th, 2011 admin

Ok, ok, there are probably some party poopers out there who don’t like pizza. I know! That’s hard to believe and frankly, I can’t be friends with them because I will never understand them.

Anyway, it’s really fun to make pizza at home but you really require a good, solid pizza oven that will do the job like no other oven. It’s totally worth spending a little extra cash so you and your family can enjoy scrumptious pizzas from here on in.

This oven is perfect for small applications and spaces. Pizza, pretzels and bread products can be cooked directly on the baking surface. The timer can be set for up to 15 minute increments and allows for continuous use. It comes with two Corderite ceramic baking stones. This unit is designed for pre-baked crust only and is not recommended for fresh dough or pan pizza baking. In stock and ready to ship. Features: Stackable oven. Exterior and door are constructed of 20 gauge stainless steel. The interior is constructed of 18 gauge high heat aluminized steel.

Get Your Guy a Watch That Will Last Forever

December 6th, 2011 admin

Yes, Rolex watches are a bit more expensive than your average watch but it will last forever, and that is something to remember when making this purchase. So many things are meant to be thrown away these days, even washing machines don’t last as long as they used to. That is because the world has adopted the notion of “planned obsolescence,” which means that the things you buy will not last very long because they were made that way. Why? So you buy another one. And another one. And another one. Forever. I hate this idea because it’s bad for the environment and you really end up spending so much more over time.

Why do that? Why waste money and contribute more trash that goes into landfills, which then creates physical waste pollution and later on, air pollution?

Quality items are rare these days, which is why I’m recommending a watch that will last forever.

Dog Smell Filling up Your Car?

December 4th, 2011 admin

You love your cute Fido or Rover or Hamilton or Betty (you know, whatever you’ve named your dog) and you take him everywhere. Why shouldn’t you? Pets are members of the family and where ever you go, your pet should go. I have no problems with that. In fact, I encourage it full heartedly. The thing is, your car is starting to stink so much, no one wants to get inside of it. Even you! That dog smell is taking over your car and your life, and well, it stinks. You’ve tried vacuuming; you’ve tried all kinds of so called miraculous cleaning products on the the upholstery and everything else inside that seemingly has absorbed your dog’s “essense.” But to no avail. It still reeks, which is wreaking havoc on your nose! And everyone else’s. Pew.

The reason the smell is embedded in everything is probably because your dog just went into your car directly on the seats with no protection. As a result, his hair got into everything, which we all know is very difficult to remove. The worst scenario is when Fido has taken a swim in the lake and gets into the car afterward. Yuck! Anyway, if you protect your seats properly, it will combat this olfactory issues that makes you a lone driver (since no one wants to get into your noxious car). Here’s an idea: get a seat cover!

The Guardian Gear Car Seat Covers protects the upholstery of rear car seats to reduce the need for costly upholstery cleanings. It fully covers the back seat, floor area and the back of the front seats. Additionally, the hammock style seat helps to keep pets safely in the back, where they should be. Made of black, heavy-duty, scratch-resistant nylon this gear also includes covers to protect headrests. It attaches securely to seats with bungee cords and the cover unzips to allow a passenger to sit alongside pet if necessary. You can install it very easily into cars or SUVs that have front and rear headrests. The seat cover is machine washable. Measures 63″L x 57″W.

Don’t Leave Home Without it

December 3rd, 2011 admin

This GPS is one of the nicest, feature-packed, and most importantly, accurate unit on the market.

With this unit, Garmin has blown TomTom out of the water. The 350/360 were slick units but arguably came up a bit short in the display department when compared to the TomTom – that’s all a distant memory now.

This is the most elegant AIO (all in one) GPS navigation solution I’ve come across to date. IMO, it represents the best compromise between size and functionality on the market today. Beyond this point, increasing the screen size enters the diminishing return territory. The SiRFstarIII chipset, while no longer the absolute best on the market, remains a reliable workhorse with rapid satellite acquisition under even less than ideal conditions. The mapping details are excellent though, as with all mapping programs, is not beyond reproach. The 660 has the most recent highly detailed City Navigator NT maps.

The voice prompts are loud, clear and timely. The ease of use is just fantastic and the visibility and quality of the display are now the gold standard in the industry with a 4.3″ WQVGA LCD screen and 480 x 272 pixels. It uses the same low reflection screen as the 360.

POI access is excellent and can be navigated to much more simply than the TomTom unit which requires additional cumbersome steps. The attachment system for the Nuvi is superb and very secure. You can access your POIs directly by name rather than having to go through a cumbersome category menu and then only getting the POIs by proximity as is the case with the TomTom 910. Garmin simply blows TomTom away in the POI functionality department.

This device is intended as an extremely simple point to point navigating AIO GPS navigation solution and is not intended to enable the use of way points or easily changing the course selected by the unit. You have essentially two options: the shortest route and the fastest route. Fortunately, the mapping program selects routs that are very acceptable. Personally, I like to look at the overall route and fiddle with it. This unit is not designed for such use. Microsoft Streets and Trips is ideal for this kind of tinkering, but terrible for point to point navigation while on the go at which the Nuvi has no peer.

Make sure and get the most recent firmware updates on the Garmin website which will fix the known bugs and further improve the functionality. Insofar as functionality goes this unit is as simple as the 350/360. Even my 85 year old father can use these things! He is, to put it kindly, technologically challenged but his 350 is so intuitive and easy to use that he’s had no problems whatsoever. He doesn’t like to be distracted while driving so he plans his trip before leaving and simply listens to the voice prompts.

The new bluetooth feature enables the use of your hands free bluetooth enabled phone. It’s a nice feature, but as with all bluetooth devices that I’ve used it’s still not as good as talking directly on the phone. I personally have not used the built in FM transmitter and so cannot comment on it. ~JSobieski
