These days, it doesn’t really pay to have work done on your house, unless you’re prepared to wait a long time or get very inferior quality or and worst of all, get ripped off by some greedy contractor. Forget all that and do it yourself. Most jobs are do-able by laymen like us, and if you just get some training at Home Depot or Lowes or take DIY courses or even just rent or buy DIY home improvement DVDs – you’ll probably be in a good position. And it’ll most likely save you a fortune in what you would have spent otherwise. That said, you need to have some reliable tools.

The Professional 600 Series is KitchenAid’s most powerful Stand Mixer. I have one and absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Everything will last a long, long time and there are no plastic attachments. All attachments are metal. I hate plastic!
This excellent mixer is for the serious home baker and features a 575-watt motor with heavy-duty transmission and a 6 quart bowl combined to give you the power and capacity to mix 13 dozen cookies, 8 pounds of mashed potatoes, or over 8 loaves of bread.
I didn’t make my own bread before but now I only make it at home with the Kitchen Aid and it is so incredibly easy. Much better tastewise and healthwise for you too, instead of buying premade, packaged icky bread in the market.
KitchenAid’s unique planetary mixing action provides faster, more thorough blending of ingredients all the way to the edge of the bowl, without ever rotating it. The rugged, all-metal quality construction and Commercial-style motor protection assure a long life of trouble-free, dependable and quiet operation.
Other features include a professional style bowl-lift that makes it easy to lift the bowl into the mixing position, 10-speed slide control ranges from a very fast whip to a very slow stir and a power hub for optional attachments. Included with the Stand Mixer, a burnished aluminum flat beater, PowerKnead spiral dough hook (designed to replicate hand-kneading to handle 20% more dough than previous models), a professional wire whip and pouring shield.

You simply cannot go wrong with a powerful zoom, intuitive, multiple-face detection technology, a decent sized CCD sensor, and a blazing DIGIC III processor, all within a sturdy metal retro range-finder case. The Canon Power Shot G9 produces very crisp, color-accurate 12-megapixel shots in very low light. Both the manual and RAW modes offer as much creative freedom as your eye (and Photoshop skills) allow. (However, do expect some distortion on 24x combined-zoom pics.) The best part of this compact blogger companion is that video shot on the G9 is as sharp and stable as you can get with such a small package.
This is a blogger’s perfect blogging companion, and, in my opinion, Canon makes the best lenses around, which is apparent in the final photo and video quality. It’ll fit easily in your pocket or purse to take your discrete photos for posts that you MUST blog about! Bloggers and photographer enthusiasts alike, will fall in love with the G9. There is just no way you will be disappointed with this digital gem.

While microwave popcorn is extremely convenient, it’s just not on our radars because we are very wary of the safety of microwaves and no one can definitively answer the question: is microwaved food safe? We’d just like to play it safe and opt for this particular popcorn popper (and nut roaster, a bonus!)
The Kettle Krazy Popcorn Popper and Nut Roaster makes a wonderful gift for someone who loves to curl up on the sofa with a big bowl and munch on America’s most popular snack while watching an absorbing movie or favorite TV shows. There’s nothing more comforting and fun than watching your big screen (or little screen!), grabbing a huge handful of popcorn and then stuffing it in your mouth! Okay, some of you might eat one at a time but admit it, it’s fun to try to get a whole bunch in there at once sometimes!
Kettle Krazy Popcorn Popper and Nut Roaster popper quickly pops up to 6-quarts of fresh popcorn in just minutes. There’s a motorized stir rod that moves the corn kernels so they don’t burn, which also means there will be very few, if any, unpopped kernels. When the popcorn’s ready, just turn the bowl upside down and it’s ready for major munching! The appliance also makes up to 3 cups of mall-kiosk-style glazed nuts or roasted nuts, so you can make some Cracker Jacks!

As much as I love Thanksgiving and Christmas, my absolute favorite time of the year is Black Friday! Waking up at 3 A.M. to get a good parking spot at the mall; even better, camping outside of Best Buy for days to get the season’s greatest deals! Once inside your select stores, you literally have to shield yourself from claws and hair pulling, and that’s just from your best friend. But, if you’d rather stay home and miss the crazy retail madness, there are many retailers that offer Black Friday deals specifically for online shoppers. Check out sites like blackfriday.com and blackfriday.gottadeal.com. They list top retailers’ advertisements with the best deals. Also, for even more savings they provide you with some online coupon codes. Awesome, right? It gets even better, some companies offer free shipping with a minimum purchase. For example, Target.com offers free shipping for all orders over $50 and Nordstrom.com offers free shipping on orders over $100 (piece of cake!) So relax in the comfort of your warm home, perhaps with a glass of eggnog (don’t forget the rum, haha!) in front of your computer. Black friday isn’t that bad, right?

It may be the slimmest Digital ELPH Canon has ever created, but the impact couldn’t be bigger. The PowerShot SD780 IS Digital ELPH captivates the senses with bold saturated colors and a daringly original design that matches the intensity of Canon’s most innovative camera technology. Even when picture-taking conditions seem pretty unforgiving, you’ve got Canon on your side. Plus, you’ve got an advanced DIGIC 4 Image Processor with evolved Face Detection Technology and the Face Detection Self-timer for extraordinary control and performance. This technology finds and tracks the faces of moving subjects until you’re ready to shoot, then delivers perfect focus. In addition, exposure, flash and white balance are compensated, so that faces exhibit natural skin tones and backgrounds are properly exposed. The camera also makes it easy to enjoy HD movies (and still photos) in beautiful high definition (1280 x 720 pixels) on your HDTV with a mini-HDMI connector for direct connection to a high-definition monitor. You’ll enjoy the HD experience with no degradation of image or audio in the signal, plus the ability to display up to 130 still images at once. So the shots you used to miss are the images you’ll now be sharing, and the movies you never took before will be HD unforgettable.

You might have guessed by now, if you’ve been reading this blog for a while, that I do not like products that break soon after you buy them. Remember when appliances lasted decades? Ok, I don’t have anything that lasted for decades but my parents’ generation experienced this. I think their washer and dryer lasted 30 years. I’m not kidding. I think they still have a hand blender that is at least 40 years old…and it still works!
Sadly, many items these days are not meant to last so that you will buy another one over and over again. This is not only bad for the environment because these things end up in landfills, but also, you the consumer waste an exorbitant amount of money over time. This is why I like to recommend durable appliances that will last quite a while.
Enter the stainless steel Lello 4080 Musso Lussino 1.5-Quart Ice Cream Maker. Here’s what people have to say about it:
Fully automatic and precisely controlled by a timer, this machine takes the trouble and guesswork out of making ice cream, sorbet, frozen yogurt, gelato, and frozen drinks at home. Ingredients go into the bowl, the timer is set, two buttons are pressed and about 30 minutes later 1-1/2 quarts of a frozen confection are ready for consumption. Because the machine doesn’t require its bowl to be frozen for hours in a refrigerator’s freezer (like less expensive machines that only churn), it can immediately begin making another batch. If a batch becomes too hard the machine shuts off automatically. Not only does it work professionally it looks the part, as the housing, bowl, and paddle are made of stainless steel for sanitation and easy cleaning. The 100-watt machine measures 12 inches wide, 11 inches high, and 18 inches deep, and it weighs 38 pounds. Made it Italy, it carries a one-year warranty against defects. An instruction booklet with many recipes is included.

How many blenders have you gone through? If your answer is more than 1, you’ve been ripped off not to mention that you probably got cheap polycarbonate (plastic) ones. Don’t do that! My recommendation is to get a reliable, durable and performing blender that will last a lifetime. Designed for the commercial environment, the robust Kitchenaid KTA-KPCB148SPM Pro Line Bar Blender design handles job after job with outstanding results. Thoroughly blends smoothies and frozen drinks, and purees sauces and soups in less than 20 seconds. Jar collar, blade assembly, and seals are built into jar for strength, durability, and water-tight performance. The patented one-piece blade has extra thick stainless steel blade design with sharpened edges and high blade angles for extreme performance and long life. The 48 oz stainless-steel jar is dishwasher-safe.
Ok. It’s expensive but it is one of the best blenders you will ever have and it’s made to last.
